Critiquing Comics #063 “Demon Archives”

Demon ArchivesJust because a story is full of tropes doesn’t mean it’s bad. Consider Demon Archives, by Daniel Sharp and Sebastian Piriz. Postapocalyptic future? Check. Members of a troop being picked off one by one, by an unknown enemy? Check. A.I. who may or may not be on the heroes’ side? Check.

And yet, much of it moves along quite nicely, including an exciting battle scene. Still, certain questions remain to be answered. Tim and Mulele weigh the pluses and minuses.

  1. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing our comic, guys! I appreciate the critiques, as I can tell they are well thought out and intentioned. I, like Tim, have not seen many of these movies (especially the 80s sci fi ones Mulele mentions), so much of the trope use is probably accidental 🙂

This is my first story I’m trying to publish, so I recognize that the “connective tissue” isn’t quite great yet. What I can say is that all these different story elements DO come together (I just need to show it better, and probably should have shown it sooner), they aren’t just random. Some of it is made clearer by expository articles and content in our “Extras” section, which I separated out because, as you noticed, I have a tendency for overly verbose dialogue, and thought it would be better to word dump in an article and not on the page. The info there would answer a fair number of your questions and confusions. The rest I will endeavor to work into the story come Chapter 5 🙂

    Thanks again!
